When Panels Need to Come Off the Roof
Most removal and reinstallation work starts with the roof, not the panels. These are the situations we see.

Roof Replacement Under an Existing Array
A membrane or shingle roof reaching end-of-life under panels that still have decades left. The array comes off, the roof gets replaced, and the system goes back on new mounts and flashings, without paying two contractors to point at each other.

Repairs and Leaks Under the Panels
A leak that tracks back to the area under the array. We detach only what the repair requires, fix the roof, and reset the affected panels, with the penetrations flashed by the same crew that repaired the membrane.

Relocation and Permanent Removal

The Removal and Reinstallation Process
System Audit and Documentation
Before anything is touched we document the system: panel and inverter inventory, layout map, condition photos, and the production baseline. That record is what makes warranty questions answerable and proves the system came back the way it left.
Safe Disconnect and Removal
The system is de-energized and disconnected: AC isolated at the breaker and inverter, DC strings disconnected, zero live parts before physical work begins. Panels and hardware are labeled against the layout map, and everything is palletized and stored, on site where space allows, off site where it does not. Removal takes about a day for most residential arrays.
The Roof Work Window
The roof gets repaired or replaced with the array out of the way. Mounts, standoffs, and flashings are evaluated honestly: worn hardware gets replaced rather than reused, because the penetrations are where reinstalled systems fail.
Reinstallation and Recommissioning
Panels go back on per the layout map, typically within two weeks of the roof work completing. The system is rewired, inspected, and re-energized, and production is verified against the baseline from the audit. You get the before-and-after documentation in the closeout package.

How much does solar panel removal and reinstallation cost?
Removal and reinstallation is priced per panel, and the number moves with system size, roof access and height, storage needs, and how much mounting hardware should be replaced rather than reused; larger arrays cost less per panel. How long will my solar system be offline?
Removal takes about a day for most residential arrays, and reinstallation usually happens within two weeks after the roof work completes, depending on scope, permits, weather, and inspection scheduling. The coordination is the point: the longer a system sits de-energized, the more grid power you buy, so the roofing and solar crews work one schedule.
Can you replace a roof without removing the solar panels?
Not the part of the roof under the array. Panels and racking have to come off the sections being replaced. When damage is limited to areas away from the array, a repair can sometimes proceed without touching the system, which is exactly what the assessment determines.
What happens to warranties when panels are removed and reinstalled?
Panel and inverter manufacturer warranties, typically 25 to 30 years, stay with the equipment when removal and reinstallation is done properly with original or equivalent hardware. Workmanship and production guarantees depend on the original installer and on how the work is documented, which is why we photograph and inventory the system before removal and verify production after recommissioning, and hand you that record. If your system is leased or under a power purchase agreement, we review the agreement's removal terms with you before work is scheduled.
Do you handle the electrical disconnect and utility coordination?
